FAQ

Where do you buy your ball jars? order online?
I recommend trying to find them secondhand on Craigslist or at Goodwill or Salvation Army. You can always buy new lids which are packaged in recyclable cardboard.

Recommendations for Zero Waste body products?
Face and wash: I use a package free bar of activated charcoal soap
Tooth Paste: I make my own- recipe here
Lotion: I use a mix of different bulk oils and butters : coconut, shea, olive, avocado, jojoba, calendula
Makeup: Mascara is hard, my favorite brand of makeup ever right now (although not package free but completely plastic free in glass and metal) is RMS beauty which is rumored to be coming out with a mascara. I go back and forth between wanting to make my own and wanting to support companies that are making such amazing products. I use their un-cover up and their lip to cheek as the only two makeup items I need and I really want to try the mascara. The makeup is Organic.

What do you do for eating out at 'hole-in-the-wall' places or taking to go? / Do you carry around reusable containers/utensils?
I know how hard it can be with reusable utensils. I don't eat out a lot, but I do have some spots that I love to go to and that unfortunately they only offer disposable utensils but I do one or a combination of the following:
       1) anticipate when I will be eating out and pack a fork in my bag
       2) if I know I will be eating out or grabbing food on the go - I keep a metal fork in my bag that I     just wash in the bathroom that I could use. I also carry a reusable cloth napkin with me that sandwiches and used forks could be carried in so it didn't dirty my bag.
       3) If you have to take out either bring your own container and napkin or make sure that what they are wrapping your food in is recyclable and be sure to avoid styrofoam. Usually places have a few options for take out containers and if you specify they will package it the way you want. The best recommendation I could give is bringing your own container and utensils or anticipating and packing food if you know you will be in a situation where you won't have enough time to sit down and eat using washable/reusable utensils/plate.

What is an alternative to tupperware?
I do not use any tupperware and instead I bring my lunch to work in mason jars. I love them because they seal water tight so you don't have to worry about spilling, they are made of glass so they are totally safe to eat from, and you can easily reheat your food in them. I would also suggest a stainless steel tiffin. I have never used one personally, but I have heard great things about them. There is a website called Life Without Plastic that sells a variety of them. But if you bring wet foods to work, make sure you get a water tight container to prevent messes.

What makeup do you use?
I use two makeup products: The first is RMS "un" cover-up in #11 and RMS lip2cheek in Promise. I am so, so happy with them.
